NEW Visitor and Office Pick Up Changes for 2014-2015
At Falmouth, we believe that we should never stop growing as we strive to provide the best possible education and environment for our students. Thus, to improve safety and increase instructional time for our students, the following changes are being made:
VISITORS ENTERING THE SCHOOL: For the 2014-2015 school year, all doors (including the front doors) in every school in Stafford County will be locked 100% of the time. Each school had a new security system, called the AIPhone (pronounced A-Phone) installed this summer that allows us to keep the front door locked at all times when children are in the building. All visitors to Falmouth are now asked to push a door bell and request entrance. Once our office staff has confirmed that the person visiting is a parent or has an approved reason for entering Falmouth, we will then remotely unlock the front door. This is yet one more step that we are taking to ensure the safety of our students and staff here at Falmouth Elementary and across Stafford County. In no way is this meant to prevent visitors from coming to FES or to make people feel unwelcome; we LOVE volunteers and visitors! This is 100% about keeping our Falcon students and staff safe. We ask parents to be patient with the office staff as they work on the “front lines” to ensure that everyone in our building is safe. Even as the office staff becomes familiar with parents and frequent visitors, the person manning the front office may not know you, and in all cases they are directed to err on the side of caution by asking for ID and the reason for the visit. This directive comes from Mrs. Thyrring and Mrs. J-P, and we ask parents to remember that we are only doing this to keep our children safe.
* PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT AT NO TIME MAY YOU LET ANOTHER ADULT INTO THE BUILDING WHEN YOU ARE ENTERING OR EXITING. ALL VISITORS TO THE BUILDING MUST USE THE AIPHONE.
CHANGES TO STUDENT DISMISSAL: Starting September 15, changes to the way a student will be traveling home from school will not be taken after 3:15 PM. This is our busiest time of the day, and it is not always possible to ensure that changes can be made safely after this time. It is essential that we avoid getting calls at the last minute, sometimes even after dismissal has started. Sending a note to school with your child in the morning is the safest and easiest way to notify us of a change.
AFTERNOON PICK-UP: Due to the implementation of the AIPhone and because of our commitment to each child’s safety, we will no longer sign out or dismiss children from the front office between 3:15 and 3:45 PM. We will certainly take emergency situations into account, but events such as lessons or sporting events would not constitute an emergency. Except for parents who walk over for pick up, parents must pick up their child in the Car Rider Line if they come in more than twice each week. Again, parents will not be able sign students out during that 30 minute time period (3:15-3:45), so please do not arrive after 3:15 or before 3:45 to pick up your child. This will allow the front office staff to concentrate on dismissing our bus students and to make sure all changes to afternoon dismissal plans for students (received by the office no later than 3:15) are shared with teachers and students. If you have an extenuating circumstance and need to discuss alternative plans, please contact Mrs. Thyrring or Mrs. Johnakin-Putnam prior to the day of the pick-up. We will not be able to discuss an exception to this policy when you show up to pick your child up, as we have to give our students and teachers all of our attention at dismissal time. We would be happy to speak to you any time prior to 3:00, however.
Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of all our Falmouth Falcons!
